Standardization brings many benefits in production. Providing always the same quality in all of our products is not an easy task to achieve. Discover the benefits that standardization has brought to Casa Sauza.

What is a Standard?

We must first start by defining the word "standard". We can understand ir as a "must be" , a "best practice" or a "norm". Regardless of the meaning that you choose, the company expects the same results from a production process and from each of the responsibilities of the workers. Which is why we are constantly immerse in a standard.

Is a standard really That strict?

A work standard indicates the steps to follow in order to have a consistent and reliable result, however, it is vital to consider that to be real and achievable, it must be flexible and it should adapt to the needs of the production process. It is also very important to try to foresee possible future setbacks in order to define our priorities and to know how to act under those situations without entering into conflict, letting the same system guide us then as well.

What is a Work Standard?

It is a tool that allows to measure our procedures and help us realize which of them can be improved in order to follow a continuous improvement and focus in achieving more productive processes.

All this work involves analyzing facts, times and movements in order to better identify losses. Repetitive tasks that do not add any value should be reduced or even eliminated if necessary. Work standards support the operator in making those equipment improvements that will allow us to focus on the value of our tasks.

Benefits of Using Work Standards:

  • Document the activities
  • Detect and reduce losses
  • Reduce the process variability
  • Promote the improvement contributions in the production process
  • Learning material for new staff
  • Development of knowledge and skills among operators (multi-task)

How to Improve the Standardization Process

One of the key elements for standardization is to involve the person in charge of the equipment, since they know it well and they operate it every day, which means that they know its faults and big losses as well. Sometimes, this operator already knows which are the opportunity areas but, unfortunately, his information is not documented. By documenting it all, we establish a reference point for the development of improvements.

At Casa Sauza, we currently encourage all of our operators to achieve improvement cases that generate savings and avoid losses. In order to achieve this, we have provided them with many improvement tools. We want to continue being a company that works in the same line. Which is why we involve each and every one of our collaborators. This is our greatest achievement.
