tequila export in bulk

On my previous blog, Bulk Tequila Export, I wrote about the kind of tequila that can be exported in bulk and bottled abroad. I also mentioned the different transportation means that are used for this purpose at the tequila industry. I would now want to keep writing about this topic, focusing on the most important challenges that Casa Sauza has faced and how we managed to meet the requirements of our clients.

Destinations

Casa Sauza currently exports tequila in bulk to 3 different places:

  • USA- in pipes of 23,000 liters or truckloads of up to 90,000 liters via railroad
  • Spain- in Isotanks of 23,000 liters by sea
  • Japan- in Isotanks of 23,000 liters by sea

Planning

Logistics

For a correct logistics planning, the first thing we need is to have is a Forecast from the client in order to:

  1. Request the preparation of the tequila to the production area.
  2. In the case of the USA, monitor the return route of the empty tank cars via Ferromex's electronic system and, in the case of Spain and Japan, require the shipping company to schedule the departure schedules of the ships for an on-time delivery that matches the client's requests.

Notify the CTR

Once we have the shipment schedule with the dates established for loading, we must notify the CRT (Tequila Regulatory Council) so that one of its representatives is present during the loading of the tequila in bulk and can validate the information for the issuance of Export certificates (one of the documents that must be presented for customs clearance).

Documents

All export documents are issued on the day of loading:

  • Invoice
  • Export Certificates of the Tequila Regulatory Council
  • Physicochemical analysis
  • VGM certificate in the case of maritime operations

These documents are sent to our Customs Agent for the dispatch of the shipment before the Mexican customs.

Main challenges

Among the main challenges that I have faced carrying out this logistics have been:

1.- To find the transportation equipment that meets the quality specifications for the loading of Tequila, since being a product of human consumption, it is very important to have all the information about the product that was previously loaded in the pipes or Isotanks, in order to avoid a contamination of our Tequila.

2.- That the truckloads arrive at the time previously scheduled by the Mexican railroad, and to find them in perfect condition at the moment of loading the tequila. For this operation, the tequila is first loaded into pipes and later, it is transferred to the railroad stations set aside for that purpose. If the truckload is not under the required conditions, we must solve that situation first and delay the departure of the tequila.

3.- Correct fulfillment of the shipping documents, taking into consideration the fulfillment of the CFDI (electronic invoice) for a correct customs clearance and to avoid being fined by the authority or even miss the scheduled ship and generate thus, delays for stays and roll over.

As you can see, bringing Tequila to the world is not an easy task to achieve, yet, whenever we travel to another destination and see people enjoying our Tequila, a Mexican heritage, we can't help but feel proud about it.

If you would like to know more about our tequila production processes, you can always come to our production plant and see it all for yourself. We'd be happy to have you here!
