During this pandemic, one of the biggest challenges for those who have children at home is keeping them entertained. It's very hard for children to fully understand what's happening and why they can't go out to play with their friends, go to school, or visit their grandparents, as they did before.

Fortunately, this will all be gone once a vaccine is developed, which is why scientists around the world are working hard to find it. But while that happens, how can we keep the minds of the little ones busy while staying at home?

Here are some ideas to support the little ones at home

Schedules

It's very important for children to follow schedules for their different activities so that they keep this habit. By doing so, it won't be as hard for them to return to their regular life once everything goes back to normal. You can design a schedule that includes different activities, such as: skills development, crafts, sports, and cooking.

Skills Development Games and Activities

It's great fun to put puzzles together as a family. There are also games that will help children think and boost their imagination. They can play a different game every day so they don't get bored. I highly recommend, for example, games we used to play as children and that they probably don't know, such as:

  • Jacks
  • Snakes and Ladders
  • Game of Goose
  • Checkers
  • Bingo
  • Pick up sticks
  • Marathon (Board Game). This game in particular, will also help children stay active regarding their school subjects. It comes in different levels, choose the appropriate one so that they don't lose interest in the game. Just as there are different levels, there are also different themes, such as film, children against adults, and others. Finding the right one for them will make this game both fun and educational.

Art Projects and Crafts

You can also develop their imagination and boost their creativity by doing art projects and crafts, most children like to do this kind of activities. They can:

  • Decorating ceramic or plaster figures
  • Paint and decorate wooden boxes or figures
  • Paint/decorate piggy banks
  • Make bracelets and necklaces
  • Make origami
  • Paint stones
  • Make modeling clay objects
  • Knit or sew

Lets' Cook!

Another very fun activity is to include them in the kitchen activities, always supervised and advised by an adult. You can make cookies and decorate them. If you don't want your children to have anything to do with the cooking, you can buy one of those sets that include the cookies plus everything you'll need to decorate them. Still, baking them from scratch is always a more interesting activity for them; waiting for the cookies to come out of the oven is a really exciting feeling for them!

If you don't like them to interact with the oven, you can teach them prepare cold meals, which will certainly keep them entertained as well. Here are some ideas:

  • Popsicles
  • Jello of different colors
  • Decorate dishes with children motifs

Today we have a plus, we can find tutorials on the internet for all this activities.

Move your body!

Get them to do a little bit of exercise. Make it a game:

  • Jump the rope
  • Jump like frogs
  • Hide something and whoever finds it first, wins a prize
  • Dance with them!
