The three Casa Sauza reposado tequilas evaluated by Profeco
A reposado tequila made with blue Tequilana Weber agave. Rested in oak barrels with subtle wood notes and a smooth profile on the palate. It is the most accessible option within the Casa Sauza reposado lineup.
Profeco study data:
A 100% blue Tequilana Weber agave reposado tequila, triple distilled in copper pot stills. Rested for more than four months in previously used medium-toasted American white oak ex-bourbon barrels. Develops notes of caramel, soft wood, and cooked agave, with a characteristic smoothness that results from triple distillation.
Profeco study data:
A 100% blue Tequilana Weber agave reposado tequila, double distilled using a combination of column and pot still. Rested four months in untoasted natural oak pipones — an unusual process in the industry that preserves the intensity of fresh agave with notes of green apple, herbal and soft wood. Clean and direct profile with a balanced finish.
Profeco study data:
The Revista del Consumidor #567 study evaluated each brand under five objective and verifiable criteria:
Consumer information: complete labeling, mandatory disclosures and visible CRT registration number
Net content: actual volume vs. declared volume on the bottle
Alcohol content: actual percentage vs. percentage declared on the label
Volatile components: presence of compounds such as methanol, aldehydes and esters within the limits permitted by NOM-006-SCFI-2012
Dry extract: dissolved solids that determine body and texture on the palate
All three Casa Sauza tequilas met every criterion with no observations.
Of the three Casa Sauza tequilas evaluated, Tres Generaciones Reposado and Hornitos Reposado are 100% blue Tequilana Weber agave tequilas — no other sugar source intervenes in their production. Sauza Hacienda is a tequila, meaning it uses at least 51% agave sugars. The distinction is indicated on each product's label and can be verified through the CRT registration number. Profeco evaluated both categories under the same technical criteria, and all three received the same rating: Excellent.
An Excellent rating from Profeco means the product met all evaluated parameters with no observations: net content and alcohol percentage match what is declared on the label, volatile components are within the limits of NOM-006-SCFI-2012, labeling is complete, and the CRT registration is valid. It is not a flavor or preference rating — it is a certification of technical compliance and consumer transparency.
Profeco evaluated 52 reposado tequila brands for Revista del Consumidor issue 567, May 2024. The study included tequilas from both categories: 100% agave and mixto. The complete results are available at revistadelconsumidor.gob.mx.
Yes. Both Hornitos Reposado and Tres Generaciones Reposado are 100% blue Tequilana Weber agave tequilas, certified by the Tequila Regulatory Council under NOM-006-SCFI-2012. The "100% agave" designation appears on the labels of both products, and their CRT registrations are verifiable on the regulator's official website.
The complete study was published in Revista del Consumidor number 567, May 2024, available on Profeco's official portal: gob.mx/profeco. The document includes the technical data sheets for all 52 brands evaluated, with every parameter measured.
According to the Profeco study, Tres Generaciones Reposado declares 38% alcohol by volume, the highest of the three Casa Sauza tequilas evaluated. Hornitos Reposado and Sauza Hacienda both declare 35% alcohol by volume. All three products met their declared percentage with no differences observed by Profeco.
